The arrangement of the hair cuticles can be altered by changing the pH of the hair. Prepping the hair cuticles properly with the correct products before applying eyelash extensions will ensure your client has the best possible retention. The goal is to create a slightly bound cuticle, which will provide the perfect amount of grip for the adhesive to bond to.
Loose Cuticle: Rough cuticles have poor retention due to the brittle surface area, causing the extensions to fall off.
Slightly Bound Cuticle: Regular cuticles will have the best retention as it provides the perfect amount of grip for the adhesive to hold on to.
Tightly Bound Cuticle: Lash extensions on a smooth cuticle usually have poor retention, as the surface is too smooth and does not provide any grip.
Purify Primer has a pH of 5.5-7, which will help open up the cuticles.
Balanced Cleanser has a pH of 4.7 to help close the cuticles.
Every client has different lashes - this means that you’ll need to test which prep method provides the best retention for each individual client. We recommend testing the prep methods over the course of 2-4 appointments to ensure that the retention results are accurate.
